6 Tips to ensure Sucess with your Aligner Treatment
Tip 1.
Wear them 20-22 hours per day. Teeth and bone need the pressure on them for this minimum amount of time to move.
Tip 2.
Only take your aligners out to eat, drink and brush. You can drink water but take it out for anything else.
Tip 3.
Never leave them in a warm/hot place as the aligners are made from thermoplastic and can melt. Additionally, do not clean them in warm/hot water as they will distort or even melt.
Tip 4.
Take your aligners out every morning and clean them. Bacteria can build up on your aligners while you sleep during the night. Get in the habit of doing this after dinner and before you go to bed at night as well for good oral hygiene.
Tip 5.
Rinse the Trays Every time you remove them. When you remove your trays for eating or for any other reason, a great habit to get into is to rinse your aligners to keep plaque and dried saliva from building up.
Tip 6.
Never throw away your old sets of aligners. Sometimes, stubborn teeth take longer to move, so our dentists may ask you to bring back to your appointment the old aligners and wear them again for a short period of time. This process is called ‘Back-tracking’ so it’s important that you keep your old sets stored at home and away from direct sunlight.
